“Innovate and Die“

To date, the Institute of Growth and Innovation has conducted the study “Innovate and Die”, analyzing the innovation and growth capabilities of companies against the background of innovation as the lever to improve profitability, growth and company value in most business lines and industries. Many innovation activities, however, do not lead to the expected results. Only one out of three companies successfully uses innovation to capture broad customer segments or to establish higher prices. The turnover and/or EBIT proportion of innovation activities on total turnover is 10-15% at most for more than half the companies. The failure rate of newly launched products is up to 80 percent in Germany, depending on the sector.

The Institute for Growth and Innovation’s study demonstrates the challenges companies face regarding innovation and reveals the corresponding methods of resolution and/or options for action. The study is intended to help improve innovation capability and is based on a survey of 70 top managers (executive board, general manager, etc.), highly qualified specialists (director R&D, director strategy, director product management, director controlling, etc.) and researchers (professors, academic staff, etc.) from 48 organizations.
